We are Sergiu and Denisse, and Leather 1 Studio is our project, born from the desire to create leather goods that are both beautiful and durable.
It all started in 2021 as a simple hobby. We were making different things for ourselves—items that would be useful and stand the test of time.
Now, five years later, while putting some clothes into the bag I use every day, I thought to myself, “This is the most useful thing I’ve ever made.” Then, as I finished, I remembered that I also wear the leather belt I made every single day—“Yes, the belt is extremely useful too.”
I looked at Denisse and saw the crazy horse leather backpack on her shoulder, still looking like new, even more beautiful now with the patina it has developed—“I’ve been using it since 2021,” says Denisse, “carrying everything the kids need.” Before leaving the house, I check my keys, my phone, and then see my wallet—“Yes, this is also the most useful thing I’ve made”...
And that is how, one by one, almost everything becomes “the most useful thing I’ve made”—the cardholders, the covers, the document folder, and so on.
We have made things like these for family and close friends as well, and the positive feedback we received, together with the experience we gained over time, encouraged us to open this store: Leather 1 Studio.
We mainly use vegetable-tanned leather. The vegetable tanning process uses natural plant-based tannins that stabilize the leather fibers and give the material firmness, durability, and the ability to develop a beautiful patina over time. These tannins come from sources such as oak or chestnut bark, quebracho wood, or tannin-rich plants like mimosa, resulting in leather with a dense structure and authentic character.
We believe that a well-made object should not need to be replaced often. On the contrary, it should become more beautiful as time goes by.
